From what I understand, you pretty much can't get anything here without fish in it. The food isn't good enough to take the risk. No parking lot, if that matters.

I used to go here all of the time, and was told the vegetarian soups were totally vegetarian, but I found out that I had been lied to. I had even befriended the american owner who understood, or so I thought that I didn't want nor could I have chicken or fish base in my food/soup.

The food and service is great. It is cheap and lunch specials are best. The restaurant is busy and very small. The tables are uncomfortably close together making for an intimate experience with your neighbor. Vegans be very aware that even vegetarian dishes come with fish sauce. You must be very specific when ordering. You cannot rely on their definition of vegetarian even though it "seems" very vegetarian friendly. I found out after being a long time customer that they were giving me fish sauce in my supposedly vegan meals.

A Taste of Thai is really rather bland for Thai and if you ask for HOT, you're lucky to get mild. Amarin (near the Alibi) and Celadon are both in Hillcrest and both more vegan accommodating)!

I love Taste of Thai. I take all of my friends and family there. Vegan friendly. Try the soups but make sure to sub with vegetable broth. Menu is great, including the mock duck.
