About Favorites
This overlooked gem in the college area near SDSU will blow you away with healthy, tasty and inexpensive eats. While the whole place is not vegetarian, every dish on the menu can be served vegan with tofu. The menu has wrap sandwiches, salads, tacos and pita sandwiches. Highlights also include "Homie Fries": a huge plate of grilled potatoes, onions and marinated tofu with an absolute amazing choice of chutney dips! The choice of chutney dips are worth the trip alone. Vegan options include: pineapple, giant peach, tropical breeze, tangerine-lemon and hot-and-spicy. The owner is very vegan-aware and assured us that meat and vegetarian food never share the same cooking surface. No favorites available.

Adams Ave location ===will it ever open?
Vegan/Woman the owner of cafe zia is amazing, but we walk past the adams ave spot every day and wish we could go in...what is the problem?
Adams Ave street fair would be a good opening day...please please
Meat dressing anyone?
VegFoodie I was really disappointed by the food here. Everything in my tofu wrap (lettuce included) tasted very strongly of chicken, and everything in my friend's chicken wrap tasted very strongly of tofu. I usually don't care about accidental meat exposure, but this was ridiculous. Pretty gross.
Horrible food... Nice cashier!
Raz Although I am not a vegetarian, I went to this restaurant with my gf who is because she had heard good things about. The chicken wrap I ordered was the most 'interesting' thing I've eaten in recent memory. It had so many different flavors, sauces, and ingredients crammed into it that I had no idea what the heck I was eating. Words cant describe how unusually bad this wrap was. The chicken tasted like tofu... the mushrooms tasted like salmon...and the nuts! Oh man the nuts! They'd put about a quarter pound of nuts in the damn thing. The best part too was that they had added soggy, oily potatoes mixed in with their 'special sauce.' This sauce merits its own paragraph. Its a combination of honey, hot sauce, and yogurt! They about about half cup of it in your wrap....mmm... My gf also complained the whole time that her tofu tasted like chicken and salmon. On the bright side, their cashier though was super nice!
good but stinky
vegchick the food was very veg-friendly and yummy but the smell of the grill they use for meat was incredibly strong and made me nauseous. maybe it was just that day . . .
Nice little place
Rob I love the wraps and the salads!
Cafe Zia
adam There are few things this healthy that taste this good
Cafe Zia NOT vegan friendly
Rez Cafe Zia seems to use one grill for all dishes. In addition, my last visit there, my friend ordered a vegan wrap and was served something with beef inside. Luckily, he discovered it before eating. When we returned to the restaraunt to ask for a new wrap, we were given a big hassle and told that beef was what we had ordered. We'll never eat there again.
disappointed
Anon I went back to Zia a few months back and things had changed. They are using styrofoam plates now, plastic utensils and plastic cups. I'm so sad as this was one of my favorite places. The food quality has suffered. The Adams location is still not open but I hope the quality of the new location reflects the Zia of old. *sigh*
greatest food ever made
Kelly Orange So about the meat being cooked on the same area...understandable, that is why the new location (adams ave to be open soon) has 2 grills, one vegi only and one for meat.......go there you will never find anywhere else like it!
If you don't mind meat-juice all over and in your food...
Job then eat here...I personally will *not* eat food cooked on the same grill as the meat is. :( I don't consider anything here to be *Vegan*
Zia Tropical Grill
Amy GC Khaled has recently changed the name of his place but the food remains fresh and the quality constistant. Khaled believes in deep thought, exchange of ideas, and great, healthy food at a fair price. He will not sell anything that he would not eat himself. He is a friend and a mentor. This is the sort of positive, local business that we should all be supporting. Good for the belly, good for the soul!
Thank you Khaled!
Wonderful food!
Julie The food and the enviornment at Cafe Zia is always enjoyable. The restaurant is casual and gives large portions of healthy and delicious food!
jumping jehosaphat batman
JeSuis this place is really good and the chutney is to die for
the owner is also very nice, i wish he was my dad
quick and tastey
Horselover Fat the parking lot is small, but you can park just across the street at the grocery store to the north. Their wraps are really good and their chutney sauce is unbelieveable. Together they make a yummy, healthy meal with vegan options that's ready in no time at all.
I'm getting hungry just thinking about it
John Beyond the good food, what's really cool about Cafe Zia's is just how sincere and hard working the owner is. It seems everyone in the college area knows him. Do yourself a favor and get over to Cafe Zia's for something different and tasty.
I could hardly believe it.
David I had heard good things but this is no doubt some of the best vegan eats out in SD!
