The Poway restaurant close a very long time ago now. A year or so ago they opened a Sipz Express in the food court of the strip mall just off Mira Mesa, next to and immediately east of the 805 fwy.
Best mock meat I've found in San Diego thus far :-) |

This Poway one is closed, the cashier told me today at the Clairemont location. They are looking for a spot to open in North Park! |

The Tom Kah was arguably the worst I've ever had. It tasted like warmed-over coconut milk, without any of the distinctive flavor that has made Tom Kah my favorite soup. Maybe this was because a *proper* Tom Kah would have completely overridden the cardboard-like taste of their Spongebob Square Chicken, the chicken substitute Sipz seems to offer or incorporate into every dish... I was only mildly surprised our utensils weren't crafted from the same faux bird packing material. Unfortunately, while the Chucken they use may work moderately well in some dishes, it is nothing short of nasty in others. SipZ's Tom Kah falls into this latter category.
We ordered our two main courses based on a) the menu's claim of house specialties and b) to sample two distinct preparations -- their 'famous' chucken basil, and their Thai spicy fried rice.
The basil 'chicken' was in fact enjoyable, though I was left wondering if I enjoyed it in part due to the completely unsatisfactory food we had had up to this point. The Thai spicy rice would have been more enjoyable if it hadn't been 85% Spongebob Squarechucken by weight and mass. The only dish we finished (aside from the toy-size fresh rolls -- Kate Moss could have finished those...) was the 'chicken' basil. Nothing else was even good enough to remotely consider taking home with us.
And while friendly, our server's lack of professionalism did stand out... I could understand if his lack of attention to us (or the other two tables occupied) had been due to it being their evening rush hour... but not because he is *watching* 'Rush Hour.' You would have thought Chris Tucker and Jackie Chan just booked a party of 50 in the VIP room. He was so engrossed in the movie, I was able to take not one, but THREE pictures of him sitting and watching the movie. After nearly 10 minutes, I had to shout across to restaurant to get his attention. |

My wife had been wanting to try SipZ for some time after hearing of their new Poway location from one of her coworkers a couple of months ago. We eat out regularly, and our local favorites include Roppongi (for Happy Hour apps) and a local (RB) Thai restaurant called 9 Star. She is a vegitarian by culture as much as by choice, and consequently non-veg food now only makes up 5-10% of my diet.
We began with an order of fresh rolls and a bowl of Tom Kah soup -- both which we have had numerous times in numerous places, from Bangalore to Bangkok to Bay Park, and something we commonly order in any of our local favorite Thai eats. This would give us a comparison to things with which we were familiar.
At least this was our intent. When we placed the order, our server, after writing it down, set his order pad down on the empty table adjacent to ours. It was clear he wasn't going to put the order in until he could put our ENTIRE order in. Poor protocol.
Well, when our *entire* order had been transcribed, it was only a matter of a few minutes before he returned with the first of four dishes, with our single order of fresh rolls. By the size of the serving, you would think fresh rolls were made out of crude oil, platinum, or come other incredibly scarce commodity. While priced similarly to single-order fresh rolls we have had elsewhere, this serving was roughly HALF the size we have routinely received in other Asian fusion restaurants.

We really miss all our favorite Vegan Restauants in our home town. Thank heaven for SIPZ. We walked into SIPZ not knowing what to expect and walked out loving ever dishes that we'd tried.
We started with the Fresh Summer Rolls and their BBQ 'Chicken'. Both were amazing. Then we had their Lasagna and the Beef Brocoli. Oh My Gosh! I felt right at home! Both were definitely the best Asian food ever! To finish it off, we had their Sweet Rice with Mango and the Vegan Chocolate cake. I highly reccommend you save room for desserts at SIPZ because my taste buds were so delighted and so were we. :) |

I have gone to the SIPZ in Clairemont since they opened. I WANT to love this place but its the service or lack there of that leaves a bad taste in my mouth every time. I agree with posts I have read that ask the question do we have no choice but to put up with bad service in order to get vegetarian food? We have a negative reputation developing here, not a good sign by any standard.
I visited SIPZ in Poway last night, bringing with me a party of 4 who had never been. I politely asked our waiter if he could EITHER turn down the loud Frank Sanatra music OR the equally loud television, set up so that the owner/cook could watch television while he worked? I was given a dirty look and then told that he would have to ask the other employee. Their decision was to turn up the volume on both. Personally if I wanted to watch TV I could have saved my money and stayed home. I admit that I am not a multi tasker. Music, television and good conversation with my guests can get all jumbled and give me a headache.
This behavior and the smallest portion of lasagna that I have ever seen did nothing but embarrass me in front of the friends from Poway that I had talked into going to SIPZ in the first place. Will I ever go to the Poway SIPZ again? Not a chance. Will I recommend either SIPZ in the future? Probably not. The service has always been sub standard, the food has never been consistently good, the Kung Po is closer to sweet and sour minus the sour. Their strong suit is attitude, for that I give them a 10. |

My wife and I tried Sipz a few months ago and vowed we wouldn't eat there again. The food was extremely salty and unpalatable. I don't understand why so many people rave about it. We've eaten at places with similar menus in the Bay Area and were sad that Sipz wasn't a good substitute. |

I enjoyed my first visit. Service and the food was good. The carrot cake is very good! They even have a small section for a retail food store. |

OMG, this place is wonderful... their orange chicken and basil chicken is crazy good. Their portions are good sized too. I ordered an appetizer and a meal and I got myself so stuffed with food. It sucks living so far away from it, but I'll be sure to go back all the time. Defiantly my favorite place for good vegan food. |

I found this restaurant by accident in Clairmont. Then I found out there was a location closer to my home in Poway. I LOVE the Thai Curry Chicken, not for curry flavor but just for what it is! The Basil Chicken is great, too and I love the brown rice. Also, don't forget to try the Thai Iced Tea... I like mine with soy milk and sometimes get boba. I bought some of the mock chicken available in the 'store' at the Poway location and cooked it up w/some Trader Joe's Stir Fry veggies - so good! But nothing beats having someone do the work for you. I still enjoy the Clairmont location for lunches during the week and everyone who I know that has tried Sipz loves it, too : ) Oh, and the staff at both locations are friendly and helpful. |

I love this place! My favorite is their basil chicken.. oh my gosh.. and their orange chicken. My whole family of 6 loved every single dish they have there. We have now been back for the 6th time and haven't had any bad yet. For dessert, have their chocolate cake. I couldn't believe it.. it is just as good as their carrot cake. In fact, it seems to get better each time we go there.
BTW, my little sister had their lasagna and she loved it!! Six years old and she even said SIPZ is their favorite place to eat. |

It's great to have an all vegetarian restaurant so close to my home. The menu is extensive. I love being able to order anything from the menu, and not having to worry about whether it is vegetarian. Wonderful food! THANKS!! |

Anyway, my favorites at this amazing place is kung pao chicken, oriental chicken salad, and ORANGE CHICKEN! Love it love it . Tried their Tofu Jerkey! much cheaper than other places. Did I say Love it? Love it :p |
